Eastern Kentucky Mountains
The mountains in eastern Kentucky include the Cumberland Mountains, which are part of the Appalachian Mountains, and Daniel Boone National Forest, which is located in the Cumberland Mountains. The Cumberland Mountain range that stretches into eastern Kentucky, western Virginia, southwestern West Virginia, and eastern middle Tennessee. The range includes Pine Mountain, Cross Mountain, Cumberland Mountain, Log Mountain, Little Black Mountain, and Black (Big Black) Mountain. Black Mountain, at 4,145 feet above sea level, is the highest point in Kentucky. In Eastern Kentucky, the state’s famed bluegrass gently folds into the ruggedly scenic Appalachian Mountains. All around, natural beauty soars across narrow ridge tops, deep canyons, rim rock cliffs, and spectacular spring and fall foliage.
